What would you call someone who finds the cure to a disease that has been declared incurable however, keeps it to himself? “Selfish” sounds like a complement for that person. What if your neighbor was dying from food poisoning, you had the antidote but kept silent? That is pure undiluted wickedness. We are talking about someone’s life here and for whatever reason, you are holding back. What excuse do you have? You have the cure, so just give it to your friend in agony!
It’s alarming that many Christians today are keeping what the world needs to themselves like selfish neighbours with the cure to an epidemic. We have met the savior of the world, yet we feel reluctant to share the good news to others. We were once lost but now found so why are we unwilling to tell others about Christ as believers? Why is it so difficult for us to witness about the saving power of the blood of Jesus? Why is it easy for us to talk about celebrities but hard for us to mention the name of the Lord? Are we ashamed of the one who delivered us from shame?
The world is dying. Many are wandering on earth lost, confused and hopeless in darkness. As Christians, we are the light of the world and it’s our responsibility to reveal to others that Jesus is the only savior of the world. He is the only one who can give humans peace, salvation and rest. It is time for us to rise up and lift high the banner of Christ. We have the cure and the word of God so let’s give it to the world.
Evangelism is not reserved for a certain group of Christians. We are the Disciples of Christ and before he ascended, he commanded us, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of age” (Matthew 28:19-20). This is the great commission to all Christians and to every believer. It is God’s will for us to preach His word so unbelievers can be saved from eternal damnation. The neighbor you refuse to witness to will perish if you don’t rise up. What does that sound like?
